Lead with confidence. Command the chaos.

In the critical minutes following a mass casualty incident, the effectiveness of the medical response can mean the difference between life and death. The Medical Incident Command and Triage (MICaT) course is a powerful new three-day training programme designed to prepare emergency responders for exactly that challenge.

Whether you’re a medic, police officer, firefighter, civil defence specialist, coastguard, or military responder, this course equips you with the leadership skills and tactical knowledge to take control in high-pressure environments.

✅ What is the MICaT Course?

MICaT can be delivered to single or multi-agency, whilst the training programme  focuses on mass casualty incident response — teaching structured, interoperable command and triage techniques. Participants are placed in realistic scenarios and given practical tools to lead and support an effective casualty response alongside other agencies.

Developed with international best practice and grounded in frameworks like CSCATTT, M/ETHANE, and the Joint Decision Model (JDM), the course also aligns with the Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Principles (JESIP) — ensuring consistent, effective, and coordinated multi-agency decision-making under pressure.

🔍 What You’ll Learn

  • How to take command at chaotic scenes and apply proven leadership principles

  • Accurate and efficient triage using Ten Second Triage (TST) and Major Incident Triage Tool (MITT)

  • Communication strategies that reduce failure risk in critical situations

  • How to establish ambulance circuits, cordons, and casualty clearing stations

  • Structured debriefing and decision logging in line with JESIP and legal standards

💡 Who Should Attend?

This course is ideal for:

  • Ambulance and pre-hospital care professionals

  • Police and civil defence responders

  • Military medical and operational teams

  • Fire and rescue services

  • NGO and humanitarian medical teams

  • Any responder with a mass casualty or command role

MICaT is built for multi-agency collaboration, bringing together professionals from diverse sectors to train as one unified response team.

🎯 Why This Course Matters

Disasters don’t wait. When lives are on the line, responders must be equipped with more than medical skills — they must lead.

The MICaT course gives you a command structure to fall back on when instinct and training are put to the ultimate test. It prepares you to work seamlessly with other agencies using shared language, frameworks, and principles grounded in JESIP.

“Large scale triage is the hardest job anyone in pre-hospital care will ever do.”

A.J. Heightman, Editor-in-Chief, JEMS
